Like most of northern Port St. Lucie, it was platted and largely built out well before the city’s western expansion.
What Homes Are Like in Sandhill Crossing
Expect established single-family homes on quarter-acre-and-up lots, a mix of concrete block and frame, and very little of it governed by a homeowners association. Buyers drawn to this part of the city are usually after a yard, parking for a boat or trailer, and no monthly association dues. The trade-off is the age of the housing stock, which makes roof condition, wiring, plumbing and window ratings the things that decide both your insurance premium and your repair budget.
Location and Getting Around
The north side connects east toward US-1 and the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and west toward I-95 by way of Prima Vista Boulevard. Lyngate Park, with its ball fields and open space, is the main recreational anchor for this part of town, and Fort Pierce is a short drive north.
What to Check Before You Buy Here
- Roof age and insurance. On homes of this vintage the roof drives the insurance quote more than anything else. Get a quote before you are under contract, not after.
- Water and sewer. Parts of this side of Port St. Lucie were on well and septic for years. Confirm what the address has and whether a city connection is required or available.
- Flood zone. It changes block to block here. Always pull the flood determination for the exact parcel.
- Permit history. Older homes often have additions, enclosures or sheds. Make sure what is there was permitted.
