Port St. Lucie Golf Community Homes for Sale

Port St. Lucie Golf Courses and the Homes Around Them

You do not have to live in a golf community to play a lot of golf in Port St. Lucie. The city has a nationally known public facility at PGA Village, a city-owned course on the east side, a public course in St. Lucie West, and several private clubs — and where you buy relative to them shapes your golf life as much as your home. This page is about those surroundings: where you can play and practice, what is public and what is private, and how that should factor into where you buy.

If you are specifically shopping inside a golf community, start with my Port St. Lucie golf communities guide. The listings above this page show golf-community homes currently on the MLS, updated automatically.

Where Anyone Can Play: Public and Public-Access Golf

PGA Golf Club (PGA Village, 34986) The headline facility. Three 18-hole championship courses — the Wanamaker, the Ryder and the Pete Dye-designed Dye Course — plus a six-hole family short course. It accepts public tee times, so you can play it without living in PGA Village or joining anything. The Dye and Wanamaker courses rank among Golf Digest's top public courses in Florida, according to the club.
The Saints (east side, 34952) The city-owned 18-hole course on SE Morningside Boulevard, with a driving range, pro shop, lessons and a restaurant. The most budget-friendly regular game in the city.
St. Lucie Trail Golf Club (St. Lucie West, 34986) A Jim Fazio design on SW Country Club Drive that opened in 1988 as St. Lucie West Country Club and later ran for years as the private PGA Country Club. It went semi-private and public-access in 2014. Driving range, short-game area and teaching pros.
Savanna Club course (34952) An 18-hole course inside the Savanna Club community on the east side that has offered semi-public tee times; no driving range, but practice greens.

Semi-private and public access policies can change, so check tee-time availability before you plan around a specific course.

Practice Facilities and Driving Ranges

For many golfers, the practice facility matters more than the course. Around Port St. Lucie:

  • PGA Golf Club practice facility — recently renovated and equipped with Toptracer range technology; the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance is on the same property. It is one of the best places on the Treasure Coast to work on your game.
  • The Saints — a full driving range on the east side of the city.
  • St. Lucie Trail — range, chipping area and instruction in St. Lucie West.
  • Astor Creek — the semi-private club at Astor Creek includes a large driving range and short-game complex.

If you practice several times a week, living within a short drive of one of these is worth more than a fairway view you never play.

Private Clubs and What They Mean for Buyers

The private side of Port St. Lucie golf is tied closely to specific communities:

  • The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club — inside the gates of PGA Village, with two Tom Fazio courses (a championship course and an executive course). Membership is separate from owning a home in the village.
  • Tesoro Club — the Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson courses at Tesoro, a gated community in south Port St. Lucie. Whether golf membership is required depends on which side of Tesoro the home is on.
  • Ballantrae — a Jack Nicklaus Signature course and a marina, both for resident members; golf membership is not required to own a home in Ballantrae.
  • Glynlea at Wylder — golf membership is bundled with the home at Glynlea, so every owner is a member.

The single most important question on any golf-area purchase is how membership works: optional (join if you want), required (every owner pays dues), or tied to the home in some other way. Required memberships add a fixed monthly cost that counts in your loan qualification, and they affect resale because every future buyer pays them too. I confirm the terms in writing before a client commits.

Living in a Golf Community vs. Near the Golf

Golfers usually end up in one of three places:

On a course A golf-front home inside a community. You get the view and open space behind you; you also get stray balls, early mowers and a price premium. Visit during play before you buy.
Inside a golf community, off the course Access to the club and the community's amenities without paying for a fairway lot. Often the best value for someone who plays regularly.
Near public golf A home anywhere within a short drive of the PGA Golf Club, St. Lucie Trail or The Saints. No golf-related association costs, and you can still play championship courses by tee time.

St. Lucie West and the Torino area put you close to both PGA Village and St. Lucie Trail; the east side is close to The Saints; Tradition and the western communities are a drive to either, with their own club options.

Buying Tips for Golfers

  • Price the whole picture. Compare HOA, any CDD, club dues and the cost of public tee times you would actually play.
  • Insurance on golf-front homes. Screen enclosures and windows facing the course take abuse; check their condition.
  • Seasonal use. If you plan to be here only in winter, a gated golf community with lock-and-leave maintenance may be worth the dues.
  • Financing. Required club dues are treated like HOA dues in your debt-to-income ratio. I include them from the first pre-approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the public play golf at PGA Village?

Yes. The PGA Golf Club at PGA Village accepts public tee times on its Wanamaker, Ryder and Dye courses, and it has a practice facility and a short course.

Is there a city-owned golf course in Port St. Lucie?

Yes. The Saints, on SE Morningside Boulevard on the east side, is operated by the City of Port St. Lucie and has an 18-hole course and a driving range.

What was St. Lucie Trail Golf Club before?

It opened in 1988 as St. Lucie West Country Club, became the private PGA Country Club, and was renamed St. Lucie Trail and opened to public play in 2014.

Where can I hit balls on a driving range in Port St. Lucie?

The PGA Golf Club, The Saints, St. Lucie Trail and Astor Creek all have practice ranges. Check each facility's rules for non-member use.

Do I have to join a club to live in a Port St. Lucie golf community?

It depends on the community. PGA Village's golf membership is optional, while other communities have different arrangements. I confirm membership terms before you make an offer.

Is it better to live on a golf course or near one?

If you play often but do not need a fairway view, living near public golf or inside a golf community on an interior lot usually costs less. Golf-front lots are about the view and space.

Are private golf club dues counted when I apply for a mortgage?

Required dues are counted like HOA dues in your debt-to-income ratio. Optional memberships generally are not, but they still belong in your budget.
