You do not have to live in a golf community to play a lot of golf in Port St. Lucie. The city has a nationally known public facility at PGA Village, a city-owned course on the east side, a public course in St. Lucie West, and several private clubs — and where you buy relative to them shapes your golf life as much as your home. Where Anyone Can Play: Public and Public-Access Golf

Practice Facilities and Driving Ranges
For many golfers, the practice facility matters more than the course. Around Port St. Lucie:
- PGA Golf Club practice facility — recently renovated and equipped with Toptracer range technology; the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance is on the same property. It is one of the best places on the Treasure Coast to work on your game.
- The Saints — a full driving range on the east side of the city.
- St. Lucie Trail — range, chipping area and instruction in St. Lucie West.
- Astor Creek — the semi-private club at Astor Creek includes a large driving range and short-game complex.
If you practice several times a week, living within a short drive of one of these is worth more than a fairway view you never play.
Private Clubs and What They Mean for Buyers
The private side of Port St. Lucie golf is tied closely to specific communities:
- The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club — inside the gates of PGA Village, with two Tom Fazio courses (a championship course and an executive course). Membership is separate from owning a home in the village.
- Tesoro Club — the Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson courses at Tesoro, a gated community in south Port St. Lucie. Whether golf membership is required depends on which side of Tesoro the home is on.
- Ballantrae — a Jack Nicklaus Signature course and a marina, both for resident members; golf membership is not required to own a home in Ballantrae.
- Glynlea at Wylder — golf membership is bundled with the home at Glynlea, so every owner is a member.
The single most important question on any golf-area purchase is how membership works: optional (join if you want), required (every owner pays dues), or tied to the home in some other way. Required memberships add a fixed monthly cost that counts in your loan qualification, and they affect resale because every future buyer pays them too. I confirm the terms in writing before a client commits.
Living in a Golf Community vs. Near the Golf
Golfers usually end up in one of three places:

Buying Tips for Golfers
- Price the whole picture. Compare HOA, any CDD, club dues and the cost of public tee times you would actually play.
- Insurance on golf-front homes. Screen enclosures and windows facing the course take abuse; check their condition.
- Seasonal use. If you plan to be here only in winter, a gated golf community with lock-and-leave maintenance may be worth the dues.
- Financing. Required club dues are treated like HOA dues in your debt-to-income ratio. I include them from the first pre-approval.
