Moving to Port St. Lucie: Homes for Sale and a Relocation Guide

A lot of the buyers I work with are coming from somewhere else — the Northeast, the Midwest, or farther south in Florida — and they are choosing a neighborhood they have never driven through. This page is written for them. The homes currently for sale in Port St. Lucie are listed above, refreshed automatically from the MLS.

For a straight search by zip, price and feature, use the main Port St. Lucie homes for sale page. This one is about deciding where in the city you want to be, and buying well from a distance.

Choosing a Part of Town from a Distance

Out-of-town buyers usually arrive with one of four lifestyles in mind. Here is where each tends to land:

“I want space and no rules.”The original platted neighborhoods in 34983, 34984 and 34953: single-family homes on their own lots, mostly with no HOA.
“I want amenities and a gate.”St. Lucie West (34986) and Tradition (34987), with clubhouses, pools and gated communities.
“I am retiring.”A dedicated 55+ community, or a regular neighborhood with a smaller, low-maintenance home. Worth deciding before you tour.
“I want to be near the water.”The east side along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River in 34952, and the waterfront searches.

Commutes and Getting Around

Port St. Lucie sits between two interstates. I-95 runs through the middle of the city and Florida's Turnpike through the west side near St. Lucie West, so Palm Beach County jobs and the Orlando direction are both reachable. US-1 serves the east side and the older shopping corridors.

Inside the city, the east-west roads carry most of the traffic: Crosstown Parkway (with its bridge over the North Fork), Prima Vista, Port St. Lucie Boulevard, Gatlin and Becker. If you will commute daily, I suggest driving your route at rush hour on your scouting trip before you pick a side of town.

Florida Things Newcomers Ask About

Hurricane season

Hurricane season runs June through November. Newer homes are built to stricter codes, and older homes may have been upgraded with impact windows or shutters. Those features matter for insurance and for peace of mind, so I note them on every showing.

Homeowners insurance

Insurance is priced house by house and has become a real part of the monthly budget in Florida. Roof age, construction and wind-mitigation features all count. Get a quote on the specific house during your inspection period.

Homestead exemption

If the home is your permanent residence, Florida's homestead exemption and the Save Our Homes cap can reduce your property taxes. You apply with the St. Lucie County Property Appraiser; the deadline for a given tax year is March 1. Establishing residency (driver's license, voter registration, vehicle registration) supports the application.

Buying Well When You Are Not Here

  • Plan one scouting trip. A long weekend driving the areas on your short list saves months of guessing from photos.
  • Use video tours for the follow-ups. I walk homes live on video and point out what the photos avoid: the neighbor's yard, the road noise, the roof.
  • Hire local inspectors. I will give you several names; you choose. Be present by phone for the summary.
  • Close remotely. Mail-away and remote closings are routine. Always confirm wiring instructions by phone with the title company.

If you are selling a home elsewhere at the same time, I can coordinate the financing so the timing works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Port St. Lucie a good place to relocate to?

Many people think so: it is more affordable than the counties to the south, sits on I-95 and the Turnpike, and offers everything from no-HOA neighborhoods to amenity-rich planned communities. The right fit depends on your budget, commute and lifestyle.

What part of Port St. Lucie should I move to?

Buyers who want larger lots and no HOA often choose the original east-of-I-95 neighborhoods. Buyers who want newer homes and amenities often choose St. Lucie West or Tradition. Retirees also compare 55+ communities. I can help you narrow it before your trip.

How far is Port St. Lucie from Palm Beach County?

It is a drive down I-95 or the Turnpike, and many residents commute. Travel time depends heavily on where in the city you live and the time of day, so test your route before you buy.

When do I apply for the Florida homestead exemption?

You apply with the St. Lucie County Property Appraiser, and the deadline for a given tax year is March 1. The home must be your permanent residence as of January 1 of that year.

Can I buy a house in Port St. Lucie without visiting?

Yes, many buyers do, using video tours and remote closings. I still recommend at least one trip to see the areas in person before you commit.

What should I bring on a scouting trip?

A pre-approval letter, a short list of areas, and a rough idea of your must-haves. I will plan a route that covers each part of town you are considering so you can compare them in one or two days.

Should I sell my current home before buying in Florida?

It depends on your finances. I can look at whether you qualify to buy first, need to sell first, or can coordinate both closings.
