Buying an Older Home Near the Water

Older homes near the river can be a good value, but they deserve a closer look. Check the flood zone, because parts of the area near the river are in the AE and AH zones, and get an insurance quote before you make an offer. Ask about the roof age, electrical panel and plumbing material on anything built before 1990, and on waterfront homes ask about the seawall, dock and riparian rights. For more waterfront options, see our Jensen Beach waterfront homes page, or the Intracoastal homes page for properties on the Indian River.
